Passive Voice
What Is Passive Voice?
Passive voice is a form of sentence where the subject of the sentence receive the action, not takes the action. Unlike active voice which focuses on the party doing the action (doer of action), this form focuses more on the party or object that receives the result of an action (receiver of action).
Passive voice adalah suatu bentuk kalimat dimana subjek kalimat menerima aksi, bukan melakukan aksi. Tidak seperti active voice yang fokus terhadap pihak yang melakukan aksi (doer of action), bentuk ini lebih berfokus kepada pihak atau objek yang menerima hasil dari suatu aksi tersebut (receiver of action).
Passive voice formula:
Active: My parents plant some flowers (pelaku aksi)
Passive: Some flowers are planted by my parents (penerima aksi)Passive voice function:
1. To explain sentences whose objects are inanimate objects
2. To explain events for which the culprit is unknown
3. To describe events whose object is more important than the subject
4. To describe two events in one sentence
Example of Passive Voice sentences:
1. Simple Present:
- I am thrown into the darkness and would never go back
2. Simple Past
- She was already taken by another man
3. Simple Future
- It will be made into a nice sweater
4. Simple Past Future
- She should be dropped out of school because of what she did!
5. Present Continuous
- The task are being done by Matt alone
6. Past Continuous
- The food was being eaten before I came
7. Future Continuous
- Our son will be educated at Harvard when you come home
8. Past Future Continuous
- This country would be being colonized if there was no one fight to defy it
9. Present Perfect
- The meet up has been delayed by her many many times before this
10. Present Perfect Continuous
- She has been being betrayed by her own boyfriend
